Technical Surveyor for start-up venture in established firm – Max 60k - Birmingham

Salary: 55,000 - 60,000 plus bonus, benefits and possible shareholding

Location: Birmingham

A top UK provider of FM support services to public sector healthcare is launching an exciting new venture to bring their skills to bear on the private sector. This is a start-up within a well-established company so here you have the best of both worlds: The excitement of a start-up, but the security of an established firm.

For this they require a qualified and experienced Technical Surveyor who is driven enough to want to help them build this new and exciting business.

The essential experience required for this role is as follows:

• RICS or similar relevant qualification
• A minimum of five years’ experience in the building maintenance industry, the vast majority of which should have been in technical surveying
• A client list: A list of contacts within the industry (PLEASE NOTE: There is NO sales pressure on you here! You will NOT be required to canvas your contacts!)
• Familiarity with the kind of proprietary software used in this sphere
• Driven and ambitious! Someone who wants “a bite of the cherry” and to help build a new and exciting business

Please note the above attributes are essential – you require all of the above to be eligible for this role.

This is not for someone “who wants to just turn up and do a job”. This is for someone driven and ambitious who, as they put it, “wants a bite of the cherry”. They want someone who will help them build this exciting new business aimed at private sector buildings in return for a stake in it: There would be a bonus for you for any work arising from people you introduce them to, plus a possible shareholding further down the line. Likely target market would be buildings such as schools, offices, and care homes.

Although they do require you to bring a list of contacts with you, this is NOT a sales role: There is NO sales pressure or expectation on you to make sales appointments or bring in new business: They will handle that side. They just want you to bring a list of people to whom you are known in the industry. You’ll deliver the surveying work that they win.

This is a Technical Surveying role which would include such tasks as fixed asset surveys, building surveys, advice on premises, monitoring of repairs and replacement works, fire-related, planned major works and modernisation. This would range from straightforward defects diagnostics to CAPEX programmes, so plenty of variety.

What’s the career path here?

This will be a genuine opportunity to be a part of this business and possibly even a shareholder. “They wouldn’t just be a salaried individual. It’s an opportunity to have a big bite of the cherry.” This will be a separate independent company, a standalone business, within the overall group, hence the opportunity to have a stake in it.

Why come and do this though, what’s the real attraction?

“It’s an opportunity to work for themselves, guide their own career and write their own salary ticket.” The more people you introduce to them that turn into business won, the more you’ll earn and this market is untapped. Yes there is a risk here, but as they opined: “Risk-takers are usually quite determined to make things work, particularly when it comes to their income.” Is that you?

“It’s a one-off opportunity to make something happen.”
