Role:
The Business Intelligence Specialist will take a lead on the analysis, design, technical development, and deployment of solutions for business intelligence (BI) and management information (MI) reporting for services provided to the business by the Data and Technology Services division.

Role Responsibilities:
• Design and develop solutions for reporting, management information (MI), and business intelligence (BI), with related data preparation workflows, to meet agreed requirements and using appropriate tools, e.g. Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server, SAP BusinessObjects, Alteryx Designer, SQL queries etc. This will involve an environment comprising multiple and varied database technologies, including Cloud services.
• Identify, define, and resolve issues and problems in a complex and changing technical environment.
• Collaborate with colleagues, and external partners or suppliers when required, to manage and resolve incidents, and fulfil service requests, making use of IT Service Management processes and tools.
• Work with the Data Analyst, Data Architect, and system owners to identify issues with data quality, and contribute to the development and application of appropriate solutions to remediate and prevent such issues.
• Work closely with the Technology Operations and Cyber Security teams to ensure that data is accessed and processed securely and in accordance with policies, and in a manner that does not have a negative impact on the performance or integrity of the School’s infrastructure and systems.
• Work with the Technology Operations teams to administer the Tableau Server environment, manage users and groups, and define appropriate security permissions on content and data.
• Lead or participate in workshops and data discovery exercises to explore and identify requirements and uses for data and BI solutions.
• Identify relevant problems and risks and ensure that these are raised and recorded, taking the initiative to identify potential solutions or mitigations where appropriate.

Essential Skills and Experience Required:
• Good general IT capability, with experience of Microsoft Office software applications in a Microsoft Windows environment.
• Strong knowledge and experience of SQL with the ability to write and understand complex queries.
• Experience of working with multiple databases (including Oracle and/or SQL Server) in a complex environment.
• Good knowledge of data quality principles and techniques.
• Demonstrates accuracy and a high standard of data literacy i.e. ability to read, understand, create, and communicate data as information.
• Ability to produce clear and effective technical documentation including diagrams.
• Experience of Microsoft Visio is beneficial as is familiarity with use of Markdown format.
• Understand source code control and versioning, and be able to effectively use tools such as Git.
Strong practical experience of using Tableau Desktop, to include:
• Connecting to and joining data from a variet of data sources
• Preparing and transforming data for use and analysis
• Defining dimensions and measures, calculated fields, hierarchies, groups, metadata etc. to build shared Tableau datasources
• Building workbooks and dashboards using appropriate chart types, filters, interactive functionality etc
• Publishing content to Tableau Server
