Description: HR Manager (Generalist): An experienced, commercially-minded, CIPD qualified HR Manager is required to lead and support the HR activity for a leading UK wholesale fancy dress manufacturer. The HR Manager will work closely with the senior management team in this family run business whilst proactively advising on best practice HR, taking a hands-on role dealing with projects, assignments and case work.

Reporting to the Company Director, the HR Manager will join one of the UK’s leading fancy dress, Halloween and carnival costume manufacturing businesses, established since 1894. This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a close-knit team at this unique business which not only develops its own products but acts as a leading retailer in its field.

The role will be split across both the Gainsborough and Leeds sites.

Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver a comprehensive HR service to the business and its Directors
- Deal with all aspects of employee relations: absence, disciplinary matters, grievances and sickness
- Lead on performance management issues and coach managers on performance management and processes
- Manage recruitment and retention: including talent and succession planning; taking overall responsibility for recruitment activity and campaigns
- Measure employee engagement and identify areas that require improvement
- Lead on learning and development: provide guidance on development for managers and their teams, including working with external suppliers of learning and development
- Oversee the company’s apprentice scheme
- Reward, advise and support managers and employees on company benefits, remuneration issues and benchmarking
- Implement new HR policies, procedures and processes, ensuring legal compliance
- Line manage and mentor the HR Assistant

Skills and Experience:
- A professional and commercial approach to HR, with the ability to deliver high employee satisfaction
- Previous experience of working within a generalist HR function, preferably in a family run business
- Have a CIPD or equivalent qualification with a good understanding of the law as it relates to employment issues
- Excellent communication skills gained from previous business partnering / advisory roles
- Experience of dealing with senior and sometimes challenging individuals
- Ability to represent the Human Resource function as part of the bigger business picture as a strategic advisor
- Confident directing HR and advising managers on all aspects of people management and development
- Strong written skills with proven ability to draft policies, procedures and reports
- Delivery focused with the ability to prioritise and organise workload agreed within deadlines
