Job Title: Graduate Engineer
Location:West Midlands
Rate:£18K to £30K Per Year    Benefits: benefits
Description: Graduate Engineer
To 30,000 (depending on experience)
West Midlands

Varied and interesting role | good salary and benefits package | global organisation | clear career path | friendly team | traditional values coupled with the latest technology

Are you an Engineering Graduate (particularly Structural Engineer, Civil Engineer, Mechanical Engineer or similar)?
Do you want a role offering variety, not necessarily in your degree discipline?
Do you have a strong ability in programming OO languages such as C++, C#, Java or similar?

Major supplier of software products to a specialist sector of the construction industry seeks a Graduate Engineer to work in their friendly office in the West Midlands in the role of Product Owner. This role will give you an excellent opportunity to fast track into a senior position within the team to specify future software solutions for the European Construction Industry. The role will give you exposure to all aspects of the business, where their goal is to create multi-disciplined individuals capable of leading the business in the future. You will need to have a strong desire to work with people, and equally with technologies.

Your first 12 months will most likely include:

* Working with the Software Development team
* Building up your knowledge and gaining experience with Quality Assurance
* A chance to experience the role of Software Tester, gaining a deeper understanding of the product's use
* Working alongside an experienced colleague, analysing issues and specifying solutions
* Gaining experience and knowledge in Customer Support, providing support to end users and giving feedback to the development team to improve future releases. This will typically involve time on a help-desk, back-end IT, and customer site visits
* You will also be seconded to a customer site where you will acquire first-hand experience of how software is used and to identify opportunities for how the software could be improved. If you have the right language skills this could be in another European Country
* Moving systematically towards the role of Product Owner

What do you need for this role?

Background or degree qualification in mechanical engineering, structural engineering or civil engineering (or similar)
Strong ability in programming in an Object Oriented (OO) language, eg C++, C#, Java
Very clear written and verbal communication including good level of grammar and punctuation
A good foundation and interest in software development (you will be working hands-on with the software as you learn the role, so if you understand how it works this would be very useful)
Real interest in how buildings are put together

You will be joining a company who are part of a large Group but operating very much as an individual business, which means you get to work in a small, friendly working environment, never far from a decision-maker, but with the security you have from a Corporation (investing millions every year). They practice old-fashioned values while using state of the art technology. You will find plenty of challenging and continual learning opportunities. Team working is a key ethos, where you will have the opportunity to share with others in a similar role, as well as your Software Developer colleagues. You will also have the chance to progress your career in this growing company.
