So, what will the role of Metallurgist / Materials Scientist entail?

Reporting to the Alloy Development Manager, you will be a key part of the Technical Department developing new magnesium products for the oil and gas industry. You will be involved in the design, testing and analysing of new development alloys as well as overseeing the upscale process to the production scale. The latter will involve working closely with the Operations Department to improve manufacturing methods. Your duties will include:

* Developing new products from concept stage at the laboratory level to full production, implementing operational excellence at all stages
* Developing an understanding of corrosion mechanisms
* Developing an understanding of appropriate coating systems
* Completing metallurgical assessments and testing of samples as well as coating systems
* Working with the Sales Team to gain understanding of customer needs
* Providing internal and external technical support, utilising your metallurgical, engineering and corrosion expertise

What will I need in order to be considered for this Metallurgist / Materials Scientist role?

* Degree level qualification in Materials or Corrosion Science, or a related Engineering or Science discipline
* Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
* Quality focused approach with a high level of attention to detail
* Superb problem solving and organisation skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
* High level of interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well as part of a team and independently
* Confident, professional, and flexible with a 'can do' attitude

The following would be advantageous, although not essential:

* Experience of metal forming processes such as casting or extrusion, within in an industrial or manufacturing environment
* MSc or PhD in Metallurgy/Material Science or Corrosion protection Science
* Experience of surface protection systems
* Knowledge of metal processing technology

Salary: £25,000 - £32,000, level dependent on qualifications and experience
