Description: My clients in Cambridgeshire are looking for Technical Assistants / Technicians - Battery Materials & Devices.

These roles are commutable from Saffron Walden, Royston, Cambridge, Bedford, St. Neots, Huntingdon.

To support the research and development of new technologies, in particular the development of state-of-the-art novel batteries / supercapacitors and energy harvesting devices.
The roles involve the formulation of inks and pastes of novel battery materials, the fabrication of test devices and the characterisation of these devices with a range of optical and electrical techniques.
Device fabrication involves high precision deposition and lamination techniques, using a variety of approaches, and requires great attention to detail for identifying factors that are likely to affect device performance and reliability, and may become relevant for future scale-up towards large-scale fabrication. The role involves working with other members of the team in carrying out experiments and investigations, with the aim to further the understanding of battery operation and degradation mechanisms.

- Preparation of redox material inks and pastes for device fabrication.
- Fabrication of devices using solution casting, lamination, vacuum deposition, and printing techniques, to support the evaluation of new redox materials and the development of improved thin and flexible batteries.
- Closely working with other members of the team, develop improved redox material formulations and improved processes for battery fabrication, with the aim to increase performance, reproducibility, and yield.
- Provide regular feedback on materials behaviour, the fabrication process, and any issues which may impact on device performance and reproducibility. Suggest improvements and resolutions.
- Accurately log the details of the fabrication process, using agreed databases.
- Support the materials development program by characterizing the ionic, electrical and mechanical properties of battery materials as required.
- Prepare written reports of any investigations undertaken, and present the results as required.

- Engineering, Physics, or Materials science graduate, preferably with some experience in a high tech R&D or manufacturing environment.
- Good manual dexterity and excellent attention to detail.
- Willingness to perform repetitive tasks such as repeated fabrication of baseline devices, as required.
- Experience of working with computer-controlled analytical and fabrication equipment.
- Computer literate with a good working knowledge of MS Excel. Experience of using MS Word and PowerPoint, together with statistical software packages.

- Experience in electrochemistry and/or battery or supercapacitor technology.
- Experienced in process optimisation and Design-of-Experiments.
- Experience of printing technologies.
- Experience of working in a clean room environment.
- Experience of microscopy and other thin film metrology.

These roles require working a rotating shift pattern 6.30am to 2.30pm and 12.30pm to 8.30 pm with a half an hour for lunch, Monday to Friday.

Salary c£22-24k per annum plus 20% shift premium, flexible for the right candidate.
