Job Title: Machine Operator

Description: Our client based in central Lincoln is looking to recruit and experienced machinist into the Die shop area. THis role is based on a 3 shift rota Monday to Friday 0700-1500/1500-2300/2300-0700



RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION



* To support the Unit Manager in pursuing business objectives
* To assist with the identification, development and implementation of operational improvements
* To ensure continuity of production of quality parts ensuring customer satisfaction is achieved.
* To ensure that quality, cost and delivery are continually improved.
* To ensure that all work meets customer (internal and external) expectations on delivery and quality.
* To be flexible, adaptable and move between work areas.

Duties

To work with the Team Leader to obtain job assignments and ensure you have the necessary tooling and drawings.

* To interpret drawings and process sheets to determine machining and set-up required.
* To measure and mark areas to be machined.



To set up machines and inspect own and others work and to ensure the maintenance and improvement of quality standards.

* To complete required documentation correctly.
* To undertake programming and proving out of components.
* To undertake first line maintenance checks on plant and equipment.
* To notify the Team Leader of any improper operations of the machine.



To ensure that high standards of health, safety and housekeeping are met.

* To carry out housekeeping audits across the unit
* To use the appropriate personal protective equipment
* To undertake risk assessments and re-assessments
* As required to undertake quarterly inspections
* To monitor and implement safe systems of work
* To comply with legislative requirement
* To ensure high standards of quality parts are achieved
* To carry out machine capability calculations
* To use precision measuring instruments to set-up and machine work to required tolerances.
* To ensure customer specifications are achieved e.g. check dimensions against process sheets, blueprints or sketches
* To undertake 100% inspection
* To complete S.P.C. input
* To stamp and record heat code, serial numbers or other required numbers that have been removed in the machining process.



To develop efficient working processes and seek ways to continuously improve all aspects of your own job.



To work to established process methods, reporting any deviations and correcting these as necessary.



To implement and maintain Total Productive Manufacturing and Lean manufacturing techniques such as T.P.M, Asset Care, and 5’s, to keep the work area in a clean and orderly condition.



To balance and plan the allocation of work within the team to achieve the best quality and performance standards and schedule your workload.



To work to achieve the performance measures identified within the team and unit and help to aid two way communications.



To identify own training needs with the Forge Unit Manager and assist with training others once competent.



To undertake additional training in line with the company needs



To ensure that new starters follow the die shop training programme and that the skill matrices are developed and maintained.



To ensure the upkeep of team boards and the completion of required administration.



To assist with the successful introduction of new/modified parts/dies.



To work with teams outside the area, and assist the maintenance function with tasks as required during short periods of downtime.



To apply fault finding and problem solving skills relating to manufacture and equipment failure to continually improve processes.



To undertake any other role within skill capability in own or other area as specified by the Forge Unit Manager/Team Leader that may be required to fulfil the needs of the Business Unit.



KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

* Relevant apprenticeship
* Ideally 2-3 years experience in setting and operating die shop equipment either manual or CNC.
* Knowledge and application of safe working practices.
* Knowledge and experience in quality systems and procedures including SPC.
* Knowledge of reading and interpreting computer blueprints, sketches and process sheets is desirable, as well as using a variety of precision measuring instruments,
* Knowledge of machine tool setting procedures and tape experience.
* Experience of working in an engineering environment.

Must have a high degree of numerical ability
