Electronics Engineering Buyer
To ensure that all electronics components required are procured within agreed parameters of cost, quality, inventory levels and delivery performance.
Reports to Materials and Quality Manager
Production Spend - £14M, Line Items - 8000, Suppliers - 120, Inventory Level - £1.6M
Experience :
- 5 years within an electronics manufacturing environment and an essential need for a responsive supply base.
- 5 years within purchasing / procurement and supply function supporting manufacturing environment.
- 5 years knowledge in identifying alternative components
- An HND or Degree qualified in Electronics is preferred.
- Well-developed communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to use computerised manufacturing systems
- Self Starter and effective time manager
- Must have a demonstrable experience of operating within a Total Quality environment in which teamwork is essential.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation.
Accountabilities:
- To ensure that suppliers are capable of meeting the site’s requirements with respect to material supply of good components, on time and in a responsive and cost effective manner.
- Ensure that all purchased items are processed in the most cost effective manner within agreed levels of inventory levels and quality.
- Take responsibility for individual total cost reduction and re-sourcing projects to achieve continual cost reductions in line with site and group targets.
- Provide close support to production management and personnel for material supply.
- Provide purchasing support to the NPI team during product development.
- Identify equivalent components in case of obsolescence or shortages.
- Use available tools to monitor supplier performance, identify problem areas and resolve short and long term issues (this will involve expediting, organising business reviews with suppliers, establishing improvement plans to improve responsiveness, seeking agreement to implement buffer stocking and kanban systems).
- Liase with other functions to manage introduction of new products and components to production.
- Continually review all purchasing systems and implement improvement where appropriate.
- Contribute to group and cross-site supply improvement project as member or leader of project teams.
- Act as 'lead buyer' for a small (1-2) number of cross-site suppliers.
