SYSTEM ENGINEER SIX MONTH FIXED TERM CONTRACT
£60,000 Per Annum (PRO RATA) We are now looking for System Engineers to work on the large-scale deployment of online services for customers in the coming months. The services will include web site deployments using a common CMS back-end as well as online game services. The role of the system administrator is to ensure that the infrastructure, hardware, operating system and application environments for these services are operational at all times. The engineer will be expected to work as part of a single team providing technical support for these services. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES •Deploy and manage front-office infrastructure •Plan and execute infrastructure change control process •Ensure 24/7 availability for all front-office services •Communicate and report all activities to team members. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Technical: •Significant level of Linux server experience. (Debian distribution preferred) •Experience in maintaining large-scale Linux networks Experience in automating server functionality and administration Strong bash and perl scripting skills Must be able to customise and run non-standard software. •Experience with MySQL administration, tuning, replication and backup •Systems management (Nagios/hobbit, MRTG/Cacti/Munin, puppet/CFEngine) •Experience in implementing backup strategies, rapid recovery of failed hosts •Experience with automated deployment tools – e.g. (FAI/Kickstart/autoyast) •Strong TCP/IP, DNS, SSH, HTTP knowledge •Solid experience with Firewalls (Juniper/Checkpoint). Non-technical: •Effective communication, both verbal and written is considered as a vital part of this role. Must be a strong believer in documentation •Able to work independently without supervision - ability to prioritise tasks and work pro-actively •Able to work in a team environment •Good sense of humour and a strong will to learn. In addition, following skills and/or experiences would be desirable: •SAN experience (Brocade + NetApp preferred) •Experience with Apache, PHP, JBOSS/tomcat •Load balancing experience (Linux IPVS or other) •High availability solutions (VRRP/HSRP, heartbeat, keepalived) •Routing and switching experience (Cisco/HP/Extreme) •Any C/C++, Java experience •IPSec VPNs •Linux kernel tuning.
