Oracle Database Administrator – Contract – Maidenhead - Competitive
The position is for an Oracle Database Administrator for third party OSS applications such as Hummingbird DMS, AXIOSS, IBM Netcool/Proviso, Fault Management, Remedy, BEA Weblogic and customised planning and asset database systems. Candidates will come from a Database administration and support background in production and non-production environments and also be able to work as secondary system administrator. They will have problem solving skills and will be able to work within a challenging and sometimes pressurized environment. The integration activities will cover installation and configuration of the databases. The engineer will be highly self-motivated and able to work autonomously. Essential general skills •Take responsibility for ensuring the maximum up time and effectiveness of all oracle databases, providing all necessary 3rd line support •Take responsibility for administering the backup solutions •Take responsibility for delivering database solutions from ground up based on given specifications and utilising best practice and innovation •Take responsibility for any Unix systems functions or applications on Unix systems, ensuring best practice in systems and database administration, build/change control and maintenance •Produce implementation plans for project and operational solutions •Be effective in supporting application software configuration including problem resolution with vendors and/or developers. •Technical problem solving, debugging and tracing of enterprise level applications •Ability and willingness to fully document and explain solutions Essential technical skills •Oracle 9i and 10g database administration skills on Windows XP, Windows 2003 server and Solaris 9 and 10. •Identification and tuning of top SQL statements. •Veritas Netbackup with Rman as backup solution plus standard hot and cold backup capability •Sun Solaris 9/10 Knowledge of Sun hardware and configuration •Fujistu-Siemens , Sun T2000 Unix hardware support and configuration •Veritas volume manager, file system and Veritas cluster Server •Automated tape library systems •Knowledge Oracle failsafe, Enterprise Manager, Oracle database control implementation, configuration and support •Oracle dataguard implementation and support •Oracle replication by using advanced queuing •PL/SQL programming skills •solid UNIX including shell scripting, cron scripts, process control, UNIX utilities This role is commutable from London, anywhere in Berkshire, Reading, Sussex.
